Biking Thunder Mountain Loop
Parked at the Fremont ATV Trailhead on Highway U-12; pedaled the gravel road to the Coyote Hollow trailhead (2.1 mi); rode the Thunder Mountain Trail to the Red Canyon trailhead trailhead (7.9 mi); rode up the Red Canyon paved trail back to the truck at the Fremont ATV trailhead (5.42 mi).
I didn’t see another person (or any tourist horse-strings) until I reached the Red Canyon trailhead. The Thunder Mountain trail was dry, powdery and dusty, especially the second (lower) half due to all the horse-traffic, but the trail was vacant so it was quiet and peaceful, and, with a sunny, blue sky and with a strong aroma of Ponderosa Pines, such a beautiful day! The biking was excellent. The last mile of single-track had numerous steep, loose, tight switchbacks, and I got off and walked most of those switchbacks. I’m too old to break and arm or collar bone, plus I just don’t care about the ’never-unclip’ ethic held by OCD bikers. Is pride valiant? Or just blind stupidity?
Biking Bryce Canyon Bike Path
Bryce Village to Inspiration Point and back (11.59 total mi). Due to bad battery, Kara rode my Epic and I rode her Trek E-bike. That e-bike weighs over 50 pounds, but it rolls surprisingly well even without power.
